BMW add new variants to the 7 series
Just a few days back, BMW took the wraps off a new quad-turbo engine. The German auto giant has now announced that this new engine will be making its way into the 750d. Along with the new 750d, BMW also showcased the 740e, a new a plug-in hybrid version of its flagship sedan.
Let’s talk about the diesel motor first. The 750d comes with BMW’s new 3.0-litre quad turbo unit that churns out a staggering 400PS of power and an insane 760Nm of torque, making it the world’s most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine.
It is thanks to this punchy motor that the 750d touches the ton from standstill in just 4.6 seconds. Mated to a ZF-sourced 8-speed autobox, all the aforementioned power is sent to all the four wheels via BMW’s 'xDrive' all-wheel-drive tech.
The 740e, on the other hand, features a polar bear-friendly 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine paired to an electric one. The result is 325PS of power and 0-100kmph in 5.3 seconds. Notably, the 740e now gets a new 'iPerformance' variant that gets a few visual tweaks compared to the standard saloon.
BMW recently launched the updated 7-Series for our markets. However, the Delhi diesel banrenders the current diesel 7'er unsellable, so, BMW could consider bringing in the 740e. It makes a strong case for itself since hybrids are set to get cheaper in the capital. The same motor might also find its way into the engine bays of the X5 SUV and the popular 5-Seriessedan.
