Maruti Suzuki to pip Kwid's success with Alto Revamp
The Maruti Suzuki Alto is a perfect entry-level hatch. However, it’s least on the looks, which is exploited by the Renault Kwid. The latter looks superb in comparison to the former.
So, Maruti Suzuki wants to upgrade its high-volume flagship model Alto to compete with the newly successful Renault Kwid. It stole from the Alto’s market share, which dropped to 40 percent from 48 percent.
The Kwid managed to get sold for a sizeable 20 percent market share of the segment selling to the tune of 45,000 units per month. Maruti Suzuki added the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno in response to the Kwid but still they are not priced as the entry-level hatchbacks are.
So, Maruti Suzuki will upgrade the Alto to make it look like a crossover as the Renault Kwid is. The latter has a superb high-slung premium look to itself, which the Maruti Suzuki will likely come up with.
So, chances are that the new generation Maruti Suzuki Alto will look similar to the Vitara Brezza in terms of its styling. Maruti Suzuki has also internally named the project as Y1K, says the Economic Times.
The launch is also expected around the festive season of the year 2019. So, it’s going to be quite a challenge for the rest of the market, as India’s largest carmaker and the market leader is going to give its entry-level segment a complete makeover.
Maruti Suzuki will make the new generation upgrade or revamp on the Alto to meet the current expectations on the segment, as things have changed since the Renault Kwid. The automobile market leader in India is also likely to bring in mild-hybrid system to improve upon its fuel efficiency, which the manufacturer is already renowned for.
