Mahindra launches XUV500 AT 1.99L for Delhi-NCR at Rs. 14.51 Lakh

The Delhi Government has enforced a ban on vehicles with diesel engines above 2.0-liters.

Mahindra launches the Mahindra XUV500, with a 1.99-liter diesel engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, exclusively for the Delhi-NCR region in India. The Delhi Government has enforced a ban on vehicles with diesel engines above 2.0-liters. Hence, Mahindra has tweaked the diesel engine to 1.99-liters to adhere to the Government’s dictates.

Made available in three trims, the Mahindra XUV500 AT comes with W6, W8 and W10 options, priced at Rs. 14.51 lakh, Rs. 15.94 lakh and Rs. 17.31 lakh respectively. Priced the same as the 2.2L model, the XUV500 AT will find the Hyundai Creta with diesel engine with automatic transmission as its rival at its price range. The Mahindra XUV500 1.99 AT is a FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) configuration vehicle with both manual and automatic transmission models, while the 2.2L engine models come with AWD (All-Wheel Drive) configurations.

Mahindra had already launched the manual Scorpio and the XUV500 with 1.99-liter diesel engines in line with the new regulations. The power output of the XUV500 is 140 PS at 3,750 rpm, with a mildly reduced torque of 320 Nm, against the 330 Nm of torque of the 2.2L models. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which might be made available in the new Scorpio 1.99L AT too.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has been cracking down heavily on diesel powered vehicles in states as Kerala and possibly in cities like Kolkata. If the NGT bans diesel powered vehicles in other States, Mahindra might be forced to introduce the 1.99-liter diesel engines in other states as well.

The top-end W10 has optional All-Wheel Drive option and Electric Sunroof while Projector Headlamps with Light Guides, Voice Recognition and Command, Voice Messaging, 18cm colour touch screen with infotainment display with GPS, Bluetooth, USB, Handsfree call, etc. are available in almost all the models as W6 and higher.
