Kozhikode: Super bikes in high demand
KOZHIKODE: Super bikes, till few months back, were a rarity in the city, but with the super bike markets expanding their presence to nook and corner of the country, the number of such bikes being registered in city is on the rise. These bikes, with price ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, have become all too common in the city, especially among the youngsters. In the first week of January itself nine super bikes were registered in the city and among them were two Ducati with price ranging between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.
Harley Davidson leads the list of preferred bikes as more number of bikers had opted for it. Last year the total number of Super bikes registered in the district was 22 and the officials are expecting more numbers in this year. “There is double the number of super bikes in the city than those registered with the Regional Transport Office. The major reason is that a majority of such bikes comes from other state and the users register it there”, said Regional Transport Officer C.J. Paulson. Majority of them have Delhi, Pune and Mumbai registration. Also many people are bringing used super bikes from other states and not re-registering it in their hometown. We will track such vehicles and initiate action against such bikes, he further added.
Anuradh Nair from Kozhikode, who is a member of Harley Owners Group (HOG), said, “In recent past an increasing number of super bike makers are making their presence in the country due to its wide demand among the people here, especially the youngsters. Ameri-can Harley-Davidson and British classic bike maker Triumph, as well as Japanese Kawasaki have already grabbed their space among the bike buffs. The latest to the list are the high end models of Harley, Ducati, Ninja and few others. Even though the presence of such high end bikes are good for the city, a proper mechanism to register these bikes here should be implemented, as a good number of the bikes plying here are registered in other states, he further added.
