Volvo Cars to launch six new models in India

The total cumulative global sales of the XC90 SUV have been 84,532 units.

Volvo Cars is on a roll with a 10.5 per cent international growth with sales of over 2.56 lakh cars. The major contributors to this double digit growth were USA (24.8 per cent), Europe (10.3 per cent) and China (6.3 per cent). In India, the Volvo’s XC90 met with great success, selling 550 units, from its May 2015 launch till July 2016. The total cumulative global sales of the XC90 SUV have been 84,532 units.

So, in order to further boost their sales in India, Volvo Cars have planned to launch six cars by the end of this year. New dealerships are also expected in Pune, Lucknow, Jaipur, Indore and eight other locations to take the tally to 20 by late 2016. Below are the list of the six cars that are set to be launched by Volvo in India:

1) Volvo S90

Successor to the S80, the S90 shares the same 2.0-litre diesel powertrain of the XC90. With its slightly lower displacement, it will be sold in Delhi-NCR as well. The Volvo has sought 76-77 GHz frequencies from the Government and if allotted, the S90 could sport radar-enabled features as collision mitigation braking and blind spot information. Priced at Rs. 50-55 lakh, bookings open for Rs. 1 to 2 lakh.

2) Volvo XC90 T8 Excellence Plug-in Hybrid

The 2.0-litre supercharged petrol engine couples with a lithium-ion-battery-backed electric motor producing an impressive 407 PS and 640 Nm. The electric motor runs 32 km solo. 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, top speed is 230 kmph. It will lose FAME incentives, as only local make cars avail them.

3) Volvo V40 facelift

The Rs. 28-32 lakh priced car is a visual facelift of the V40 with new front-fascia, grille, “Thor” hammer headlights, fresh upholstery designs, etc. Smartphone app connects Windows, Android and Apple. The 2.0-litre diesel engine making 150 PS, 350 Nm will remain mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

4) Volvo V40 Cross Country Facelift

As the name goes, the Volvo V40 Cross Country facelift is an all-roader, while it will remain the same engine and equipment of the V40.

5) Volvo S60 Polestar

The 1969 cc, 4-cylinder mill, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, makes 367 PS and 470 Nm, claiming 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with 250 km/h top speed. 20-inch alloys, large discs, power steering, etc. promise high-performance.

6) Volvo XC90 R-Design

The R-Design will be an aggressive version of the XC90 with the same engine. It gets large 22-inch alloys, besides some cosmetic and equipment updates as sports seats, leather-steering, etc. The R-Design inscriptions will be found on the mats, scuff plates, gear knob, remote key, etc.
