Volkswagen Atlas Seven-Seat SUV unveiled

The SUV was first spotted through spy photos, where it was seen uncamouflaged, when it came from China.

Volkswagen has lifted the curtains of its latest seven seater SUV Atlas. It has been rechristened as Atlas from its original name Teramont. The SUV was first spotted through spy photos, where it was seen uncamouflaged, when it came from China.

Bigger than the Volkswagen Touareg in dimensions with 121 mm length, 38 mm width and 35 mm height in excess, the Atlas, when launched, will become Volkswagen’s largest SUV for sale in the Indian market. It is also bigger than the Skoda Kodiaq, which was showcased earlier in the year.

The model has been originally meant for the US market, which is why it has come with larger dimensions. However, it will still be placed under the Touareg to rival the Ford Explorer and the Dodge Durango.

The Atlas gets rectangular headlights with DRLs, a neat-looking front-grille, aggressive wheel arches and aesthetically fitting tail lights. The interiors get touchscreen infotainment system besides a digital screen behind the steering wheel, which goes optional, whose placement can also be customized based on where the driver prefers to have it. The cabin with its Volkswagen switchgears and dials also remains the same as in most Volkswagen models.

The USP of this large SUV is that it is a large seven seater, which can seat seven full-sized adults, claims Volkswagen. The space is maximised by the unique seat-folding mechanism in the second row seats to create more space for the back row seats.

The Volkswagen Atlas gets two engine options to choose from with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine making 241 hp of power and the 3.6-litre, V6 engine, which makes 284 hp of power. Transmission is made possible via an 8-speed automatic, which transfers power to the rear wheels. The higher-powered model gets the optional 4Motion 4-wheel drive as well. Besides in India, the Volkswagen Atlas will also likely get a launch in China.
