Toyota to launch Glanza in India tomorrow

Toyota will offer a better warranty package with the Glanza than its counterpart, Maruti, does with Baleno.
  • Based on the Baleno, the Glanza will be the first car to come out of the Toyota-Suzuki agreement.

  • It will only be available with a couple of 1.2-litre petrol engines borrowed from the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

  • Minor cosmetic changes have been made to the Glanza to differentiate it from the Baleno.

  • It will be manufactured in Maruti’s factory but the service will be provided by Toyota itself.

  • Prices expected to begin from Rs 7.7 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota’s upcoming premium hatchback, the Glanza, will be launched tomorrow in the country. The car is based on Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno, so much so that it will be assembled in Maruti’s factory, on the same assembly line where the Baleno is assembled.

The Glanza is the first car to be borne out of the Maruti-Toyota deal to cross-badge cars. While it will be built in Maruti’s factory, the service and warranty for the car will be taken care of by Toyota.

Toyota will only offer the Glanza in a petrol avatar, unlike the Baleno which is also available with a diesel, at least until April 2020. It will use the same 1.2-litre petrol engines that powers the Baleno. In the base-spec G variant, Toyota will be offering the new mild-hybrid powertrain that makes 90PS and 113Nm in the Baleno. The top-spec V variant will get a non-hybrid 1.2-litre engine that makes 83PS and 113Nm. There will be a 5-speed MT and CVT gearbox on offer.

Cosmetically, the car is almost the same as the Baleno. Minor changes -- like a revised front grille, badges on the boot and the colour of the climate control switches -- have been made to differentiate the two.

Toyota will be offering a 3 year/1,00,000km warranty on the Glanza, unlike Maruti which offers only a 2 year/40,000km warranty on the Baleno.

The Glanza will be priced at a premium over the Baleno to offset the cost of the extra warranty and more perks like free Road Side Assistance. Stay tuned to CarDekho for more information on the Glanza once it is launched in the country.
