Mahindra XUV300 to get AMT this month

Will get a Magneti Marelli-sourced AMT with both the petrol and diesel engines.
  • AMT option likely to be offered in all variants except the base W4.

  • Mahindra could charge a premium of Rs 60,000 to 70,000 over the manual.

  • All of its rivals already offer an automatic option.

  • The upcoming, more powerful petrol XUV300 will also get AMT option too.

Mahindra’s latest offering in the sub-4m SUV segment has been on sale without an automatic option for nearly four months now. But that is set to change as the manufacturer will launch the AMT-equipped version of the SUV later this month. The AMT unit on the XUV300 will be sourced from Magneti Marelli, the Italian automotive component manufacturer.

An AMT-equipped W8(O) version of the XUV300 was spied testing just a few weeks after its launch on 14 February this year. And very recently, a mid-spec W6 variant of the XUV300 with a 6-speed AMT was also revealed in a detailed video. We expect the XUV300 to get an AMT with both the petrol and diesel engines in all the variants except the base W4.

In addition to this, the XUV300 will get a more powerful T-GDI (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) 1.2-litre petrol engine option later this year. It will develop more power and torque than the existing MPFI (multi-point fuel injection) engine. The more powerful 1.2 turbo petrol which will be BS6-compliant from day one will also have an optional AMT transmission along with the 6-speed manual unit.
