Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition launched at Rs 86.90 lakh
Mercedes-Benz India has launched the GLS Grand Edition SUV in India. It is a special edition of the GLS SUV, which, the German carmaker says, draws inspiration from its flagship sedan the S-Class. The GLS Grand Edition is priced at Rs 86.90 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India) for both V6 petrol and diesel powertrain, at a premium of Rs 4 lakh over the respective standard model.
The special edition SUV comes with ‘Grand Edition’ badging on the exterior, chrome fins on the bonnet and blacked out rings on the full LED headlamps. It features shiny black 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, which are an inch bigger than the standard wheels. All the other bits remain the same as the other models.
Mercedes claims that the GLS Grand Edition’s cabin offers S-Class levels of comfort and luxury. It features ARTICO man-made leather upholstery with aluminium and open-pore ash wood trim. Nappa leather has been utilised for it’s three-spoke heated steering with paddle shifters. The Grand Edition’s instrument cluster has been redesigned and receives improved graphics while the semi-integrated, 8-inch COMAND touchscreen infotainment system receives Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The second row of passengers get two 7-inch HD screens for entertainment, which is not on offer on the standard model.
Mercedes-Benz is also readying the new generation of the GLS, which is set to debut at the Paris Motor Show in October, 2018. The upcoming GLS is expected to receive the Maybach treatment for the first time to take on the recently rising trend of high-end luxury SUVs. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS will be eyeing the likes of Bentley Bentayga and the upcoming Rolls Royce Cullinan. Expect an eye-watering price tag as well.
