Specifications of Maruti Suzuki Ignis revealed
One of the most important factors to consider before buying a car is its mileage and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming compact crossover the Ignis has confusing claimed figures. Although it would be launched on January 13, its specifications are already out. It will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines, as in the Baleno. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 26.8kmpl and 20.9kmpl for the diesel and petrol drivetrains respectively. The Baleno is heavier as compared to the Ignis and still returns a better fuel efficiency of 21.4kmpl for the petrol and 27.4kmpl for the diesel.
We’ve said before that the engines powering the Ignis will be the tried and tested 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine and the Fiat derived 1.3-litre diesel, the power figures on the other hand had eluded us but not anymore. The petrol motor will churn out 83PS of max power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 4200rpm. The diesel motor on the other hand will make 75PS of max power and 190Nm of peak torque. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and AMT will also be on offer.
Here are the exterior dimensions and weight:
LxWxH - 3700mm x 1690mm x 1595mm
Wheelbase – 2435mm
Ground Clearance – 180mm
Boot space (with parcel tray) – 260 litres
Fuel tank capacity – 32 litre
Kerb weight – 825-860kg (petrol) and 940-960kg (diesel)
Despite the car measuring only 3,700mm in length, there is ample space in the cabin which can also be attributed to the wheelbase which is 5mm longer than the Swift and has the wheels pushed out to the corners of the car. Though with a ground clearance of 180mm it barely classifies as an SUV and looks more akin to a high hatchback. 15inch wheels will be offered as standard adorning 175/65 section tyres. It will also feature disc brakes up front. Lastly, it will be retailed through Nexa showrooms and is expected slot in between the Celerio and the Swift, so it will have to be sensible on the wallet in terms of price and running costs.
