Maruti Suzuki has been contemplating on the launch of the next-gen Swift Sport in India. The Swift Sport is the sport version of the Maruti’s successful Swift hatchback. As a sport model, it will get a more powerful engine and sport car suspension.
The Swift Sport has already been doing the rounds in the international market in its two previous generations. The model, however, has not been launched in India as yet. So, Maruti is bringing the Swift Sport to India, as Indian buyers have started buying more powerful machines.
A sport version by Maruti with the Swift brand will likely make the Swift Sport a very successful model, as the Swift is the most popular hatchback in India. The Swift Sport is also likely to revive its prospects, as the brand too has gotten older.
For now, Maruti Suzuki has codenamed the Swift Sport as YSD, which is a highly aggressive version, whose spy shots were also seen in March this year. However, it was then assumed to be the standard Swift, while it was the Sport version of the Swift.
On the visual front, the Swift Sport is likely to be more aggressive with its front-grille, air intake and fog lamp housings. The side profile is also likely to reveal large alloy wheels, while the rear is to get twin exhausts and a blacked-out diffuser.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport could come powered by the K14C, 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine that makes 140 hp, which is already doing duty in Suzuki models. Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant is likely to make the powertrain, as it already makes the 1.0-litre Boosterjet motor in the same plant. Expect the Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport to launch by late 2017 and to price around the Rs. 8.5 lakh mark.
