Volvo bucks slow trend, sales up 11 per cent

The luxury carmaker sold a total of 1,159 units in the January-June 2019 period against 1,044 units in January-June 2018.

PUNE: Despite the overall downtrend in the automobile market, Volvo Car India, the local arm of the Swedish carmaker, has posted an 11 per cent year-on-year rise in sales in the first half of 2019.

The luxury carmaker sold a total of 1,159 units in the January-June 2019 period against 1,044 units in January-June 2018.

Sales contribution from mini metros and Tier-1 towns and a good demand for the SUV range aided the growth, the company said in a statement.

Volvo’s sports utility vehicles or SUVs, known for their safety and security added volume in Volvo’s second half sales and the attractive XC-60 SUV contributed highest in the sales this year.

What has also helped is the ramp-up in dealerships across the country, enabling the carmaker to reach a wider audience.
