Tata launches Nexon AMT in India at Rs 9.41 lakh
Tata Motors has launched the much-awaited Nexon AMT in India. It is available in a single top-spec XZA+ variant, which is priced at Rs 9.41 lakh and Rs 10.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), for petrol and diesel respectively. At this price, it is about Rs 40,000 more expensive than the XZ+ dual-tone (manual transmission) variant, on which it is based. Along with a new transmission, Tata Motors has also launched a new orange colour (with contrasting silver roof) for the Nexon, taking the total number of colour options to six. The Indian carmaker has also launched an online customization platform for the Nexon, christened the Imaginator.
Powering the Tata Nexon AMT, or in the company’s words, Hyprdrive S-SG (self-shift gears), are the same 1.2-litre revotron petrol and 1.3-litre revotorq diesel engines as its respective manual variants. While the petrol mill pumps out 110PS/170Nm, the diesel engine generates the same power, but a higher, 260Nm of torque. Both the engines can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) option. The three drive modes - Eco, City and Sport - are available with both the gearboxes.
The compact crossover’s AMT gets intelligent transmission controller, which features anti-stall, kick-down and fast-off functions, optimising the vehicle’s performance while overtaking or at the time of sudden acceleration.
Features available in the Tata Nexon AMT include a 6.5-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system which supports Android Auto, 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, projector headlamps, 16-inch machine-cut alloys and voice warnings (for parking brake release alert, door-open warning, seatbelt reminder, low fuel warning and others). Moreover, dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), reverse parking assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts are offered as standard in the Nexon XZA+.
The Nexon competes with the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV300 and the Honda WRV. Among its rivals, only the Ecosport and the TUV300 are offered with automatic options. While the Ford SUV gets a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic with its 1.5-litre petrol engine, the Mahindra gets a 5-speed AMT with its 1.5-litre diesel. The EcoSport Trend Plus AT and Titanium Plus AT cost Rs 9.76 lakh and Rs 11.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. Offered in three variants, the Mahindra TUV300 costs Rs 10.16 lakh for the T8, Rs 10.76 lakh for the T10 and Rs 10.91 lakh for the T10 dual-tone variant.
