What to expect out of the Chevrolet Essentia?
The Essentia compact sedan is the Chevrolet’s answer to the sub-4m compact sedan segment, where almost all the carmakers in India have floated their models. The Essentia debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo back in February in Delhi.
It was showcased as a concept, while the launch is expected around March 2017. The details of the Essentia compact sedan have been revealed. So, here are a few of them:
Mechanically, the Essentia sub-4m compact sedan will be powered by three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine and the 1.1-litre diesel engine. The latter already does duty in the current model. The Essentia is also based on the upcoming Beat update.
One can expect the interiors to be quite spacious, though the Essentia will be a sub-4m compact sedan. Premium features and equipment can also be expected with the Chevrolet Essentia. The multimedia equipment in the cabin will likely be the MyLink touchscreen infotainment system.
Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo back in February in Delhi, expect the Chevrolet Essentia to launch by March 2017, following which it will take on the Kite 5, which is based on the Tata Tiago. Also expect the prices to begin around Rs. 4.5 lakh for the base trim and go up to Rs. 7 lakh for the top of the line trim.
The Essentia will also be a tad smaller than the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Tata Zest and Volkswagen Ameo, as the Beat hatchback, which the Essentia is based on is smaller than the Swift hatchback. So, it won’t directly rival these models. The Essentia, upon launch, is expected to revive the prospects of the Chevrolet in India, which has been staring at a downward trend for long.
