Datsun redi-GO to be launched on June 7
Datsun will launch its third offering in India, the redi-GO on June 7. Last month, the Nissan-subsidiary revealed that that the price of this new offering will range between Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh, however the exact variant-wise pricing will only be revealed on June 7. The entry-level hatchback has already reached dealerships and the pre-launch bookings have commenced too.
Aside from sharing the same CMF-A platform as the Kwid, the redi-GO also gets the same engine. The 800cc mill churns out 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, Datsun claim the redi-GO will return 25.17kmpl.
Datsun has chosen a quirky tall-boy design for its upcoming hatch, which is full of cuts and creases. It looks nearly identical to its concept avatar, and is available in funky colours such as bright green and a deep red. The styling is thoda hatke in our books, for a hatch in this segment. What are our thoughts on the interiors and how it drives? Do read our redi-GO review to find out.
The baby Datsun has its work cut out as it will lock horns with the bestselling car in India, the Alto 800. Maruti recently updated their number muncher to take on fresh blood such as the Kwid and the redi-GO. On paper, it has a lot to offer to the first-time car buyer. It is reasonably spacious, is easy to drive and offers really good fuel economy. Whether it goes on to repeat the success story of the Kwid remains to be seen.
