Apple Will Soon Manufacture All iPhones in India in Coming Years: Jyotiraditya Scindia

Scindia said that investing in India today is not just about goodwill, but a sound economic decision for every original equipment manufacturer

New Delhi: Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said that Apple would soon manufacture all iPhones in India in the coming years. The minister also said investment in India at present makes economic sense for every original equipment manufacturer. "India’s policy environment and expanding manufacturing ecosystem are making it an increasingly attractive destination for global tech firms," he said while inaugurating Bharat Telecom 2025 in the capital.
Citing Apple’s plans to source and produce most iPhones sold in the US from India, Scindia also said that investing in the country today is not just about goodwill, but a sound economic decision for every original equipment manufacturer (OEM). "Apple has decided to source and produce all its mobile phones in India in the years to come. When you invest in India, you are choosing affordability, reliability and originality,” he added.
Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook had announced during during the company's earnings call that the company would source the majority of the iPhones sold in the US from India in the June quarter, while China will produce the vast majority of the devices for other markets amid uncertainty over tax tariffs.
During the presentation, Jyotiraditya also highlighted all achievement of the government taken for telecom sector in the country. "In just 22 months, we connected 99 per cent of our villages with 5G and brought 82 per cent of our population onto the network, deploying 470,000 towers— this is not evolution; it is a telecom revolution. This digital highway we have built across India is not merely about communication— it is the infrastructure of infrastructure, empowering 1.4 billion citizens with access to healthcare, education, governance, and economic opportunity," he said.
The minister also pointed out that India has not only caught up with the world in areas like 4G and 5G, but is now leading the charge, with sweeping reforms and technological innovation shaping the country's trajectory. "The role of India's telecom sector as a transformative force and described the nation's evolution from expensive, limited mobile access in the 1990s to now being the world's second-largest telecom market and the cheapest data provider," he said.
