Google celebrates Charles Perrault, the father of fairy tales 388th birthday

He wrote his first fairy tale at the age of 70 in 1697.

Once upon a time in 17th century, there was an author Charles Perrault, who wrote all those dreamy fairy tales that become part of our lives.

Perrault an academic from Paris wrote all those charming stories like The Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty and so on. He spent most of his in the court of King Louis XV.

Today Google celebrates his 388th birthday with three doodles. The Doodle created by artist Sophie Diao features illustrations from his famous fables Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Puss in Boots.

Perrault was born in a wealthy family and studied law. He wrote his first fairy tale at the age of 70 in 1697 after his retirement. His narrative Stories or tales from Times Past with Morals or Tales of Mother Goose had eight stories, which included Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella.

He died in 1703. These stories were retold to everyone from Walt Disney to the Brother Grimm. His work has been adapted to opera, theatre, ballet, movies and continues to get print.
