Manish Paul to act in Khalid Mohamed's 'Katha' remake

Television's funny man Manish Paul playing Farooq Sheikh's role.

Originally directed by Sai Paranjpye, Katha starring Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval in the lead roles is set for a remake. Director Khalid Mohamed, who last directed Silsiilay (2005), touches this light-hearted romantic triangle with a contemporary twist. Anjum Rizvi will be producing the remake.

The cast for the remake includes television’s funny man Manish Paul playing Farooq Sheikh’s role, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub playing Naseer and Kannada actress Sharmiela Mandre playing Deepti Naval’s character.

When contacted Khalid Mohamed, he said, “I usually write my own scripts and even started writing Rajnigandha sometime ago, but it wasn’t getting tuned to today’s time. Then I thought of Katha which is more relevant today. I met Sai and told her about it and she approved it. In fact, she liked Manish very much. Sai will be getting the original story and screenplay credit.”

Shot in just 32 days, it’s a low-budget film made in two crores. “I have only directed it and bought the official rights. Katha remake is my tribute to Sai,” Khalid says.
