Gaiti and Uma, had choreographed Sunny Leone in the song ‘Baby Doll’ that not only made them famous and got them recognition, but also went on to become the biggest chartbuster of the year. Gaiti talks to us about her reaction to Sunny’s recent interview that made headlines after she was targeted by a journalist for her ‘past’. The star won over the internet, viewers and several Bollywood stars for handling the interview with grace.
Gaiti, who watched the interview, went on to slam the journalist and applauded Sunny for the way she handled the questions fired at her. She said, "When I saw the interview I was a little ticked off. You are interviewing a celebrity and there is a certain decorum you have to maintain. It doesn’t matter where she has come from and what she did in the past. The gentlemen interviewing Sunny was instigating her to say things that would make the interview sensational for the viewers, and it was incredibly obvious that she was getting uncomfortable.”
She further stated, "But the last taste that the interview left in my mouth, was absolute respect for Sunny. Having worked with her I know she is a lovely girl, incredibly honest about her work and very hardworking. Even during ‘Baby Doll’ if any moves were to be changed, she would say ‘no I will practice first’. People would often ask us oh so you are working with Sunny and how is she as a person etc."
The choreographer felt that it was very wrong to target the former adult star for her past, and start acknowledging her presence in the industry as a Bollywood star. She said, "I think to come down on her so strong because of her past was not right. She came down all poised, graceful and in control. We all have a past and I think it's high time that people realise what she is here for and even if people don’t acknowledge that - don’t push her in a corner and keep bashing her for the past."
Gaiti even opened up about the time she spent with Sunny on the sets and her admiration for the way she has embraced her past profession. "I met Sunny with my partner Uma for ‘Baby Doll’, she is intelligent and articulates herself really well. She has no regrets about what she used to do and why should she? We all make choices in our life and if she doesn’t regret it, why are people constantly trying to make her feel bad about it?" she questioned.
"I don’t know, if people know that she is witty. And what’s lovely about her, is that she doesn’t crib and finds humour in everything. I messaged and congratulated her for conducting herself so well and being unapologetic for who she is, and she replied very sweetly," she added.
The choreographer remembers being questioned if she had ever watched Sunny's past work before working with her on their hit song. To that, Gaiti had a fitting reply. She said, "So when we were working with her for ‘Baby doll’, people often asked me if I have seen any of her previous works. I just want to say that I have not seen any of Sunny’s previous work, as I didn’t want to. The reason being why should I? Is that going to help me choreograph her better-No!"
She further explained, “I will not watch her past in any way, I respect her a woman. It’s not like a DOP (Director Of Photography) has to go and watch her past works to shoot her better, so as a choreographer why would I do that? I am not going to dig up history. I think I owe to her that much respect as a woman."
