BJP Launches Awareness Drive On Waqf Reforms

Purandeswari criticised opposition parties for spreading misinformation and creating unrest over the reforms, asserting that both the Supreme Court and Centre share the same stance.

VIJAYAWADA: The BJP in Andhra Pradesh, led by state president and MP Daggubati Purandeswari, launched a public awareness campaign on Waqf reforms at the party’s state office in Vijayawada on Friday. Addressing the media, Purandeswari said the campaign aims to educate people and build support for legislative reforms in Waqf laws. Referring to the Supreme Court's recent directives, she clarified that the court did not recommend repealing the Waqf Act but advised forming a new Waqf Board through new legislation without altering recognised Waqf properties.

Purandeswari criticised opposition parties for spreading misinformation and creating unrest over the reforms, asserting that both the Supreme Court and Centre share the same stance. She emphasised that Waqf is a religious institution, and the Centre has no role in its religious functioning. A PowerPoint presentation on Waqf issues was also shared during the campaign.

Responding to allegations in the National Herald case, Purandeswari condemned claims that BJP was targeting Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. She pointed out that the FIR was filed before BJP came to power and clarified that the case was initiated by Subramanian Swamy in 2012. She highlighted financial irregularities in Associated Journals Limited (AJL), explaining the ED’s current role is based on substantial evidence. Several BJP leaders, including Sheikh Baji and Paturi Nagabhushanam, were present.
