Will Return for Oath-Taking: Modi Confident of Bengal Win

Prime Minister spoke about his long association with the state and its influence on his spiritual journey

Barrackpore (West Bengal): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed a Vijay Sankalp rally in Barrackpore ahead of the second phase of polling in West Bengal, expressing confidence in a BJP victory after the results on May 4.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister spoke about his long association with the state and its influence on his spiritual journey. He said Bengal has been a source of inspiration, shaped by its cultural legacy and the affection of its people.

Calling the Barrackpore rally his final public meeting in the ongoing campaign, Modi said the mood of the people indicated a clear mandate. He added that he expects to return to the state after May 4 for the BJP’s oath-taking ceremony.

He also reflected on the emotional connection he shares with people during campaign events, noting that he reads messages, letters, and views portraits presented to him, often reflecting on them after rallies.

Highlighting his decades-long political journey, Modi said he has been actively engaged in organisational and electoral responsibilities across the country, working continuously without regard to time or conditions.

The Prime Minister is campaigning in support of BJP candidate Kaustav Bagchi, who is contesting against Trinamool Congress candidate and sitting MLA Raj (Raju) Chakraborty. CPI(M) candidate Suman Ranjan Bandyopadhyay is also in the fray, making it a triangular contest.

The Barrackpore Assembly constituency, located in North 24 Parganas district, is one of the 294 constituencies in West Bengal and falls under the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat.

On Sunday, Modi visited the historic Thanthania Kalibari temple in North Kolkata and offered prayers before beginning his roadshow. The temple, established in 1703, is dedicated to Maa Siddheshwari and is considered one of the oldest and most revered Kali temples in the city.

Polling for the first phase of the Assembly elections concluded on Thursday, with West Bengal recording a voter turnout of 91.78 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India.

The second phase of polling will be held on April 29, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
