Police Intensify Checks On Foreigners Overstaying Visas

Hyderabad police identified 49 foreigners overstaying visas during a joint citywide operation, with 12 deported and action underway against others.

Hyderabad police, in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Special Branch’s Foreigners Monitoring Cell, local law and order police and the IT Cell, have intensified checks to identify foreigners overstaying their visas and violating immigration rules.

The special joint search operation launched across the city on August 31 has so far identified 49 foreigners staying illegally after the expiry of their visas. They were shifted to designated holding centres, while 12 have already been deported to their respective countries. The process of deporting the remaining foreigners is underway in coordination with the concerned authorities.

Of the 49 foreigners, 30 were identified under Toli Chowki police station limits, six each under Langar Houz and Mehdipatnam, three under Rajendranagar, two under Banjara Hills and one each under Saifabad and Gudimalkapur police station limits.

During field‑level checks and inquiries, police also detected foreigners involved in various illegal activities. Some overstaying foreigners were found to be involved in circulation of counterfeit currency and cheating cases. Police also seized 250 grams of ganja from a foreign national during the checks.

Police found that some foreigners who entered India on student visas continued to stay after their visas expired and were working as translators or intermediaries for foreign patients at hospitals. They allegedly charged patients hefty amounts and received commissions of nearly 15 per cent from hospital bills.

In another case, a Kenyan woman who had entered India on a tourist visa was found allegedly involved in prostitution after overstaying her visa. Police also caught a foreigner allegedly mixing Alprazolam tablets with cough syrup for intoxication. Three South Sudanese nationals, who had been overstaying since 2018, 2023 and 2025 respectively, tested positive for cannabis use during drug screening.

Police warned landlords and accommodation providers to verify passports and visas and submit foreigner stay details through Form III/C. Checks will continue across the city.
