Nurses Seek Representation For Clinical Cadre In Proposed Nursing Directorate
Telangana Nurses Association seeks adequate clinical nursing representation in the proposed Nursing Directorate and consultations before its structure is finalised.
The Telangana Nurses Association (TNA) has demanded adequate representation for the clinical nursing cadre in the proposed directorate of nursing and urged the state government to hold consultations with nursing associations and serving clinical nursing officers before finalising its structure.
The association said the clinical nursing cadre accounts for 16,101 of the 16,898 nursing posts in the state, while the teaching nursing cadre has 797 posts, according to the budget estimates 2026-27, appendix-A.
The demand comes after the government initiated the process to study the functioning of nursing directorates in other states and strengthen nursing administration through G.O.Rt.No.302 of the health, medical and family welfare department, dated July 21, 2026.
The TNA said the clinical nursing cadre, which includes chief nursing officers, nursing superintendents - grade-I, deputy nursing superintendents, nursing superintendents - grade-II, senior nursing officers, head nurses, nursing officers, and staff nurses, is directly involved in patient care and hospital nursing administration.
It said these personnel handle ward management, clinical supervision, duty rosters, staff allocation, emergency services and implementation of nursing standards in government hospitals. Their experience should therefore be considered while deciding on cadre restructuring, posts, promotions, postings, transfers, training, professional development and career progression, it said.
