A man died on Saturday after sustaining serious injuries upon entering the tiger enclosure at a wildlife park in northern England.

According to the reports, the incident took place at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near the city of Doncaster at about 1:35 pm. The tigers remained inside the enclosure and there was no danger to the wider public, South Yorkshire Police said in a statement.

“Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene,” South Yorkshire Police said in a statement.

"We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened," the wildlife park said in a statement posted on its website.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park opened in 2009, while its ‘Land of the Tigers’ attraction was launched in 2011.

According to the park’s website, the attraction is a specially designed two-acre reserve for endangered Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers. The enclosure features a 300-metre raised walkway, allowing visitors to observe the big cats roaming through woodlands and grasslands and playing in a waterfall pool.
