Karachi: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman strongly criticized what he described as the hypocrisy of Pakistan’s leadership and military establishment over cross-border military operations.
Drawing a comparison between Pakistan’s strikes in Afghanistan and India’s “Operation Sindoor,” Rehman questioned the logic Islamabad uses to justify its actions while condemning similar moves by New Delhi.
He was speaking at the Majlis-e-Ittehad-e-Ummat conference on Monday in Lyari Town, Karachi, which gained prominence after its reference in the Hindi movie 'Dhurandhar', directed by Aditya Dhar. Rehman condemned the Pakistan Army, led by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, for conducting attacks inside Afghanistan that reportedly caused civilian casualties. He argued that if Pakistan considers its military actions across the Afghan border legitimate, then it has little moral or political ground to oppose India’s incursions into Pakistani territory to target militant groups.
Rehman specifically referenced India’s retaliatory strikes in areas such as Bahawalpur and Muridke, as well as the alleged headquarters of groups blamed for attacks in Kashmir. “If you say that we attacked our enemy in Afghanistan and justify this, then India can also claim the same logic,” he said, asking how Pakistan can object while adopting similar tactics.
