With Trump's administration cracking down on immigrants and even the premier educational institutions in the US, a university in Hong Kong has shown readiness to assist the international students at Harvard University.

According to Newsweek, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology promised to help ensure a smooth transition for students unable to enroll for the next academic year. The university said it would take admissions, credit transfers and provide support for visa approvals and housing for the international students, on priority.

"Diversity fuels creativity and progress. We are prepared to welcome Harvard students into our community, offering them the resources and vibrant environment needed to thrive in their fields," said Guo Yike, the provost at HKUST, as per Newsweek.

It may be recalled that the Chinese government slammed the US government for stopping the enrollment of foreign students and student exchange programmes at Harvard University. Currently, more than 1,000 Chinese students attend the Ivy League school.

The US Department of Homeland Security accused Harvard of creating an unsafe campus environment by allowing 'anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators' to harass Jewish students on campus. The Homeland Security Department also charged the varsity with coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party.

Responding to this, Harvard University called the US government's move to ban international students 'unlawful'.

It is significant to note that the HKUST is ranked 66th best in the world in the Times Higher Education's College Rankings 2025 while Harvard stands in the third place.
