10 killed in suicide attack in Lahore

Islamabad: The death toll in Wednesday night’s blast near Lahore reached 10 on Thursday as a policeman succumbed to his injuries. Constable Naeem was deployed at the annual congregation of the Tableeghi Jamaat when he was injured in the attack. His death brought the toll of those killed to 10. Dozens injured in the attack are being treated at Jinnah Hospital.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said four suspected militants tried to enter the Tableeghi Jamaat gathering, but were stopped by policemen.

One of the men then blew himself up while the remaining managed to flee from the spot. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility and released an image of the suicide bomber.

"Five policemen - two inspectors and three constables - are among nine persons killed in the blast," Rescue 1122 spokesman Jam Sajjad said on Wednesday. Hundreds of mourners attended the funerals of those killed. Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif and other officials attended the police funerals.
