Nice, France: Hours after a truck rammed into the National Day celebrations in France's Nice city killing at least 80 people and injuring hundreds, a shocking video has emerged online, that captures the chilling moment a huge white truck rams into unsuspecting citizens who can be seen running scared for their lives.

In the video footage, the white-coloured truck can be seen speeding and ploughing into the crowd as revellers watched the Bastille Day fireworks.

As the truck rammed into the crowd, people were heard screaming in terror, running around and trying to shield themselves from the attacker.

People screamed and scattered as the truck veered down the palm-lined promenade where thousands of adults and children had gathered for the fireworks, walking towards the famous Negresco Hotel.

Condemning the attack, French President Francois Hollande branded it as a 'sign of terror' and announced the extension of the 'state of emergency' for a period of three months.

At least 77 people have been killed and scores injured, prosecutors said, with local government official Sebastien Humbert saying Nice had been hit by a "major criminal attack".

Other witnesses described hearing gunfire, although this was not immediately confirmed by the authorities.

Police could be seen surrounding the truck in the early hours of Friday, its windscreen riddled with bullet holes, under the lights of the Negresco Hotel.
