Melbourne: Australian authorities have granted permanent residency to Mohammed Rahmat Pasha, a 38-year-old cab driver hailing from Hyderabad, for his extraordinary bravery during the Bondi Beach attack. Pasha, who was working as an Uber driver, stayed back at the scene to assist emergency responders, ultimately saving nearly 20 lives. Pasha hails from Vikarabad and lived in Masab Tank in Hyderabad before moving to Australia for better prospects.
The Bondi terrorist attack was an anti-Semitic and Islamic State (IS)-inspired terrorist attack that occurred on the evening of December 14, 2025, when two heavily armed men targeted a Hanukkah festival at Archer Park near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. Sixteen people, including the attacker, were killed and over 41 were injured during a celebration of the Jewish holiday where more than 1,000 people had attended.
Pasha saved nearly 20 people during the shooting. As the tourists ran for their lives in panic, Rahmat Pasha, who was there at the time, managed to dodge the bullets. Following the tragedy, Pasha faced severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and was temporarily unable to work. To recognize his selflessness, Australian authorities, spearheaded by an intervention from Minister Tony Burke and the efforts of immigration lawyer Abdul Syed Javeed, granted him permanent residency. The permanent residency applications for his wife and three children are also currently being processed and will soon join him there.
