Ahmed Al-Ahmed, hailed as a hero for his actions during the attack at Sydney's Bondi Beach, is recovering in hospital. The 42-year-old father of two received a $2.5 million donation raised worldwide by donors, community members, well-wishers, and strangers moved by his bravery.

His courageous act, credited with saving multiple lives and captured on camera, showed him approaching an attacker and wrestling a gun away. His cousin said he was shot twice, causing nerve damage that required complex surgery, with another operation scheduled this week.
Upon receiving the donation cheque, Al-Ahmed thanked contributors and shared a message of unity: "Let's get up, together, and move beyond hate. We will continue to save lives."
