Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said Thursday that the US government had helped her leave Venezuela, where she has spent months in hiding, to get to Norway after she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

"We did get support from the United States government to get here," Machado told a press conference when asked by AFP about whether Washington had aided her journey from Venezuela, which had warned she would be branded a fugitive if she left the country.
