New Delhi/Buenos Aires, July 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Argentina’s President Javier Milei held comprehensive bilateral talks on Saturday, focusing on defence, agriculture, energy, mining, oil and gas, trade and investment, and people-to-people ties. During delegation-level discussions, the two leaders reviewed ongoing cooperation and explored ways to deepen the India-Argentina partnership in these key sectors.

Modi, on the third leg of his five-nation tour, was warmly welcomed at the Casa Rosada by President Milei with a ceremonial hug. Earlier, the Indian prime minister paid tribute at the statue of General José de San Martín, a revered leader of South America’s independence movement—in recognition of Argentina’s national hero.
This visit marks the first bilateral prime ministerial level exchange between India and Argentina in 57 years and is Modi’s second trip to the country, his first being the 2018 G-20 summit. The Indian government described the visit as the beginning of a new chapter in ties between the two nations.
Upon arriving at Ezeiza International Airport on Friday evening, Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome before proceeding to his hotel, where members of the local Indian community greeted him with chants of “Modi, Modi” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and performed a cultural dance in his honor. “Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect,” he posted on X, expressing gratitude for the community’s warm reception.
In his departure statement, Modi noted that Argentina is a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G-20. He said he looked forward to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.
Modi arrived in Buenos Aires after concluding a two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, where he signed six agreements to expand bilateral ties and was honored with the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the nation’s highest civilian award. He thanked President Christine Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for their hospitality and reaffirmed commitments to deepen economic partnership and collaborate on disaster management, climate change, and defence.
