St Louis: Donald Trump had a feisty exchange of words with his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton over his lewd remarks about women.

While Ms Clinton alleged that the real estate tycoon’s 2005 video of lewd and sexually explicit remarks against women — that jolted his White House campaign and prompted a top Republican leaders to abandon him — reflects “the real” Mr Trump, he accused her husband Bill Clinton of sexual assault of women over the past several decades.

Mr Trump said he was “very embarrassed” with the video that surfaced on Friday and “hated” it but dismissed the recording as “locker room talk” in response to a question in the early phase of the debate that quickly turned into an acrimonious discussion over the clip in which he was heard using vulgar language and talking about groping women without consent.

Under pressure following the backlash over the video as well as his past performance at the first presidential debate on September 27 which media said was “agitated” and “ignorant”, Mr Trump appeared defiant.

He also vowed, if elected as the US President, to launch a special investigation against Ms Clinton over her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state under US President Barack Obama from 2009-2013 and ensure she is jailed.

“If I win, I’m going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there’s never been so many lies, so much deception,” Mr Trump said.

Ms Clinton hit back, saying “everything he just said is absolutely false, but I’m not surprised,” she said. “Oh, really?” Mr Trump remarked. “It is just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country,” Ms Clinton said. “Because you’d be in jail,” Trump retorted.
