The Lite version of the KEY2 has been certified by the FCC.

Update: 2018-07-28 05:42 GMT
The BlackBerry KEY2 is built with a Series 7 aluminium frame and features a textured diamond grip back panel.

Earlier on this month, there were rumours that a lite version of the BlackBerry KEY2 was in the works, at the time it was referred to as the KEY2 Lite. An image also had surfaced which showed what the device would look like. Now, the FCC has certified a number of regional versions of the handset and this shows the name of the handset it will be sold as — BlackBerry KEY2 LE.

From the name we can assume that the LE could stand for Lite Edition, however, we this could not be true. According to a report by GSMArena, the handset comes with a model number BBE100 with a hyphen and a number that reveals the region it will be launched in.

The report goes on to state that it will not be a mini version of the KEY2 but rather a handset with toned down features. This would include a plastic body, RAM could be lowered to 4GB, the SoC should be the same as the KEY2 with it being a Snapdragon 660 chipset. However, other specs could be altered in order to make the handset cheaper than the KEY2.

The report ends by stating that the handset should get officially announced by end August or early September.
