Apple acquires New Zealand-based wireless charging company
The announcement comes from the Cupertino giant after a series of big leaps towards wireless charging this year.
After introducing wireless charging on the new iPhones, it would make sense for the company to put efforts to enhance its own hardware. For that, Apple acquired New Zealand-based wireless charging company PowerbyProxi for an undisclosed amount, according to a report by Stuff.
Apple’s senior vice president, Dan Ricco confirmed that the acquisition to the news publication, and said the firm will be "a great addition as Apple works to create a wireless future."
"We want to bring truly effortless charging to more places and more customers around the world," he added.
The announcement comes from the Cupertino giant after a series of big leaps towards wireless charging this year. Apple also unveiled its multi-device wireless charger—the Airpower, establishing its commitment to the Qi wireless standard.
How PowerbyProxi will help Apple move forward in the wireless charging space is yet to be determined, but the company does produce a range of high-watt systems, which may possibly open options to charge device like MacBooks wirelessly.
