Motorola Razr shock reappearance ahead of Samsung Flip Z launch

Just weeks ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Flip Z’s launch, the Motorola Razr foldable phone has surfaced for pre-order.

The new Moto Razr is a compact device.

Late last year, Motorola announced arguably the hottest foldable of the year in the form of the rechristened Moto Razr. Unfortunately, its December 26 launch date had been pushed back indefinitely. While we understand that there could be teething problems with first-generation foldable devices, not knowing when it would launch took a bit of its spark.

Now, out of nowhere, the handset has made a reappearance and it is up for pre-order; albeit at a very suspicious time — just ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Flip Z’s launch. This could be pure coincidence or some great marketing strategy by the Lenovo-owned brand.

As far as details go, the Moto Razr’s specifications remain largely unchanged and it will still retail for USD 1,499. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 which is by no means a flagship chipset; but considering the overall specifications, it will be a worthwhile competitor at this asking price.

There is a 16MP f/1.7 rear camera and a 2510mAh battery that keeps the Moto Razr alive. The handset is expected to go on sale in early February; right ahead of Samsung’s announcement of the Galaxy Flip Z which is believed to be announced alongside the Galaxy S20. Both, the Razr and the Flip Z feature similar form factors with clamshell designs; this means that like flip phones of yesteryear, they have to be flipped open to reveal the screen.

A related report by Forbes states, “If the rumours about Samsung’s next device are accurate though, that’s where the similarities end. Motorola’s mid-range device can expect to face some tough competition from Samsung. The Galaxy Flip is reported to be priced competitively, have better specifications - including a bigger battery - and will likely feature Samsung’s industry-beating camera technology.
