Google's Project Ara set to launch this year

Google has announced that its modular phone, Project Ara, will reach its developers around the fourth quarter of 2016. The search giant had delayed the project last summer after it ran into trouble with the a few modules.

The Project Ara platform allows people to hot-swap various smartphone modules, which include cameras, batteries, speakers, and display screens. All modules connect to a central frame or motherboard. Google also claims that it plans to release a version of Project Ara for all consumers around 2017. Google said the company will self manufacture the Project Ara phones and modules.
