Xiaomi's flagship Mi 6 to launch on April 19th

The Mi 6 will be Xiaomi's first flagship to be globally unveiled after Hugo's departure. Will you wait for it?

Last year's Mi 5 was an impressive smartphone. However, leaked reports have already pointed to an immensely impressive specification list for a lot less money.

Xiaomi on Tuesday announced that they will be unveiling their flagship for 2017 – the much awaited Mi 6 on 19th April. The device will be unveiled at a launch event in Beijing, as per Xiaomi’s global Facebook page.

The device, however, has already been leaked on GFXbench, flaunting specifications that will be considered as the gold standard for 2017. We know that the Mi 6 will be having a 5.1-inch 1080p display, a 12MP rear camera capable of shooting 4K videos as well as an 8MP selfie camera that will also record videos at 4K.

The Mi 6 is rumoured to run on the Snapdragon 835 chipset (that wasn’t surprising– it’s a flagship) with the Adreno 540 GPU chip. The device will be aided with RAM options of either 4GB or 6GB along with 64GB/128GB storage options. And since it’s a Xiaomi, it will let you interact with MIUI 8 on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Several rumours have also suggested that the Mi 6 could have a curved screen variant, an “iPhone-esque” Plus variant and an “S” variant later in the year. All of that remains to be confirmed over the year.

Xiaomi will possibly launch the Mi 6 in China first, followed by India and all the other countries it operates in. The Mi 6 is expected to be priced in the range of $289-$391, which puts it roughly around the Rs 20,000 mark. If this speculation comes out to be true, then the Mi 6 will give a tough fight to the OnePlus 3T and other flagship killers.

However, we hope that Xiaomi does release the full-blown version of the Mi 6 in India later in the year. Xiaomi’s last year’s flagship – the Mi 5, was an incredible device for a lot less money. But India got the standard version with 3GB RAM, SD820 and 32GB memory (minus SD card slot); which was promising for the price it sold but couldn’t move sales figures as expected.
