Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature under-screen Face ID, potentially eliminating the need for the current pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display, according to a report by The Information.
The report states that both the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will include a small hole in the top corner of the screen solely for the front-facing camera, while the Face ID will be under the screen. This change marks a significant step in Apple’s long-term goal of achieving a truly edge-to-edge screen design.
The absence of the pill-shaped cutout suggests that Apple may be moving away from its current Dynamic Island interface, which was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series and has since become a distinctive feature. However, it remains unclear whether the Dynamic Island will be completely phased out.
Previously, noted tech analyst Ross Young also reported that under-screen Face ID would debut in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, lending additional credibility to these claims.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 series in September 2026, continuing its tradition of fall product launches. If confirmed, the integration of under-screen Face ID would represent one of the most significant design changes to the iPhone in years.
