Instagram is reportedly working on a new feature that will help users discover common interests.
The company confirmed to TechCrunch that the “Picks” feature is an internal prototype and has not been tested externally.
The feature was first spotted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who shared screenshots on social media. According to these images, users can select their favorite movies, books, or games — their “picks” — and Instagram will identify friends who chose the same.
With the “Picks” feature, Instagram aims to help users connect more personally with friends.
In January, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the Meta-owned platform is focusing on creativity and connectivity this year. “To help people connect with friends over the things they discover on Instagram, we’re going to double down on messaging, make consuming content more interactive and social, and explore new ways to connect with friends,” Mosseri wrote in a post on Instagram.
It remains unclear whether Instagram will roll out the “Picks” feature, as the app is already packed with features. Recently, it introduced the Instagram Map feature, which faced backlash from users who said they did not want it.
