Skype finally adds read receipts to chats

This new feature can be tested in the app's preview build.

Update: 2018-07-07 06:56 GMT
The optimised update will roll out on devices running Android 4.0.3 - 5.1.

Having read receipts in chats is almost a given nowadays with virtually all messaging apps supporting this feature. Skype, on the other hand, did not have this feature until now.

As per a report by Engadget, when someone has read your message their avatar will pop up below allowing you to check when they have read your messages. This feature is available in one-on-one chats as well as group conversations with as many as 20 individuals. However, to view these read receipts, everyone will have to use the 8.26.76 preview build on iOS, Android or desktop for it to work.

If you wish to not have these read receipts feature, it can be turned off in the privacy settings and they are disabled by default if your status is set to invisible. If you wish to see read receipts from your contacts, then this feature would need to be turned on.

Engadget notes that if this test goes well, the feature will be rolled out to everyone at a later date.
