Every year, the world looks at one of the semiconductor industry’s leaders – Qualcomm, for the fastest processors of the year. The Snapdragon 835 was released last year to run the flagship smartphones of 2017. Now, Qualcomm is ready to announce one of its fastest mid-range processors for 2017 – the Snapdragon 660.

Qualcomm has sent out press invites to Chinese press to possibly announce the SD660 chipset. The company is also expected to release the SD630 and SD635 processors as well, although it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The Snapdragon 660 is supposed to be the successor to the popular Snapdragon 625 chipset that is used in some of the popular mid-range smartphones of 2017. Following in its footsteps, the SD660 will be based on the 14nm finFET manufacturing process that will aid in better heat management and optimal power efficiency. The Snapdragon 660 chipset will include four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3GHz for handling intensive tasks and four Cortex-A53 cores running at a speed of 1.9GHz for pushing through the day with lighter tasks. There will be an Adreno 512 GPU chip for rendering the visuals.

The chipset will host the X10 LTE modem and will employ UFS 2.1 flash storage for faster read-write operation in the memory department. The SD660 will support dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM modules clocked up to 1866MHz. There will be a support for the Quick Charge 4.0 as well.

The SD660 could be a part of the popular mid-range handsets from manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo Moto and other Chinese manufacturers as well.
