Tesla's Powerwall batteries light up' South Australia

Tesla will soon provide around 50,000 South Australian homes with solar panels and Powerwall batteries, which ultimately will contribute to a larger and enhanced power network for the area.

The company wants to give the region a virtual power plant which will supply electricity to around 50,000 homes over the next four years. The individual units which will be set up to generate power will also contribute extra power to the grid, which can be used as a surplus and be sourced if some other location needs it.

The Powerwall can detect an outage, disconnect from the grid, and automatically restore power in homes in a fraction of a second. The lights and appliances will continue to run without interruption. It also has the capability of providing more than seven days of power supply during an outage. The device stores the excess solar energy and makes it available on demand, even post sunset. The whole process has been made easy to understand through the Tesla app, which will give the user the full details about the consumption and distribution of power.

By installing these panels, the dependence on and consumption of electricity is aimed to be reduced by approximately 30 per cent. This program by Tesla has already started and a trial period has been introduced to 1,100 homes. With predictions of the country’s temperature only rising, this definitely appears to be a solution which one should look towards adopting. More than 4,000 people have already signed up on the website for this program, which indicates that the country can soon look towards being power efficient.
