Puducherry government to ban deadly Blue Whale Challenge

Warns of stringent action against those indulging in game.

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayananasamy on Saturday said that the territorial administration would bring in a legislation to ban the deadly game ‘Blue Whale Challenge’.  He also warned stringent action against those who are indulging in the game. The Chief Minister’s response came a day after Blue Whale Challenge has allegedly claimed its first victim in the Union Territory as a student of Pondicherry University hailing from Assam committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree.

The matter is of serious concern, and the parents should have a close eye on the children, said Narayananasamy. He also appealed to the students to not to fall prey of the game which poses a risk to their lives. “Your parents are bringing you up with several dreams and ambitions and hence, you should come out of the game which poses a risk to your lives,” he said.

Responding to the death of Pondicherry university student, the Chief Minister said that the police are probing the matter to find out whether the suicide was related to the blue whale game or due to depression or any other cause,”.

After the death of a first year MBA student who was allegedly playing the online game Blu Whale Challenge, Pondicherry University issued circular asking hostel inmates to not to play the online games.

“Nowadays a few dangerous games are available free on websites and play store. This type of games will damage the career and life of students,” said A. Sudalamuthu, chief warden in a circular published on the website of the university.

Hostel inmates are advised not to play the online games and especially the link naming ‘popcorn carnival ‘ as it is the hidden link of the Blue Whale game.

At the same time the parents of Shashikant Bori, who allegedly committed suicide on Thursday, left for his hometown in Assam with the body on Saturday after the postmortem is over.

“As of now, we did not have any clue confirming that the Blue Whale game is the reason behind the death of the boy. He was having many personal problems, including a failed relationship. The investigation is still on and the cyber cell is examining the cell phone of the boy “ A. Babu, sub inspector of Kalapet police station who is in charge of the investigation told DC.
