YouTube clarified that it is conducting the experiment to gain insights.

The previous round of policy-tightening came after more than 250 advertisers cut back on YouTube ad-buying last spring following news reports that found their ads displayed alongside extremist propaganda.

YouTube's latest experiment of auto-generating video thumbnails did not go well with creators who took to social media to express their ire.

Under the experiment, 0.3 per cent of the viewers will be shown auto-generated thumbnails, instead of the custom images YouTubers so thoughtfully create to stand out, Cnet reported.

The company clarified that it is conducting the experiment to gain insights. However, YouTubers are upset that the company did not care to give a heads up before pulling off such a huge experiment which potentially impacts over five million viewers.
