HP Acquires Humane For $116 Million.

The AI startup Humane, which developed wearable AI pin, has been acquired by HP for $116 million, the company announced.

HP has agreed to acquire AI capabilities from Humane, including AI-powered platform Cosmos, technical talent, and intellectual property with more than 300 patents and patent applications.
“Humane’s AI platform Cosmos, backed by an incredible group of engineers, will help us create an intelligent ecosystem across all HP devices from AI PCs to smart printers and connected conference rooms. This will unlock new levels of functionality for our customers and deliver on the promises of AI,” said Tuan Tran, President of Technology and Innovation at HP.
Humane said that the new purchases of the consumer AI pin will be discontinued, and it will not connect to its servers after 12 p.m. (PST) on February 28. “We strongly encourage you to sync your AI Pin over Wi-Fi and download any stored pictures, videos, and notes from Center before February 28, 2025. If you do not do this, your data will be lost upon deletion on February 28, 2025, at 12 p.m. PST,” Humane said in a statement.
Humane founders Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno will also join HP to help integrate AI into HP’s PCs, printers, and conference rooms. Before setting up the startup, Imran and Bethany were design and software engineers at Apple.
Humane launched much-hyped AI pin in April 2024 and marketed it as a smartphone replacement. The wearable device was meant to allow users to access AI models, calls, and texts through voice or gesture. But the device received negative reviews, including glitches and quality issues.
