Google is introducing new AI features to Google Photos and YouTube Shorts, including an image-to-video AI tool and generative AI effects.
The image-to-video AI tool allows users to turn photos into short video clips. According to Google, both the photo-to-video functionality and generative effects are powered by Veo 2.
In Google Photos, users can create 6-second clips, while in YouTube Shorts, they can choose the clip length. However, users cannot enter custom prompts—they must select from a predefined list.
The feature is currently rolling out in the U.S. for Google Photos on iOS and Android devices. AI features for YouTube Shorts will roll out next week in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions to follow later this year.
Google is also adding a new feature called “Remix” to Google Photos, which will be available on Android and iOS devices in the U.S. “emix in Google Photos, pick a photo from your gallery and choose your favorite style to easily transform pictures right in your gallery into these kinds of images in seconds to share with your friends and family,” Google explained in a blog post.
Additionally, the YouTube Shorts camera is getting new generative AI effects, such as turning doodles into creative images and applying video effects to selfies.
