Google Assistant To Be Discontinued on Android, Wear OS on September 4

Google has announced that it will begin removing access to Google Assistant on Android phones, tablets, Wear OS smartwatches, headphones and other paired devices from September 4.
According to a report by 9to5Google, the company sent an email to existing users on August 5, informing them that Google Assistant is being discontinued and that Gemini is now the default assistant experience on Android.
"We're writing to let you know that the Google Assistant on your mobile device is being discontinued, and Gemini - our next-generation Al-powered assistant - is now the assistant experience on Android," Google stated in the email.
Google said it will start removing access to Google Assistant from September 4, though the process may take a few weeks to reach all users.
“Once availability is removed, you will no longer be able to use or switch back to Google Assistant on your phone, tablet, or paired devices,” the Company said.
The tech giant clarified that Google Assistant will continue to work in vehicles with Google built-in beyond September 4, 2026.
Google had originally planned to discontinue Google Assistant in 2025, but the transition was later extended to 2026.
