Apple is reportedly producing all four models of the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup in India as part of its efforts to reduce reliance on China, Bloomberg reported.
This marks the first time Apple will manufacture its entire iPhone lineup—including the high-end Pro models— in India.
According to the report, Apple is expanding iPhone production across five factories in India, including two newly opened plants. To mitigate tariff-related costs, the company has shifted much of its production for the U.S. market from China to India.
The expansion involves Tata Group’s plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn Technology Group’s large production hub near Bengaluru’s airport. Tata, which has emerged as Apple’s key partner, is expected to account for half of India’s iPhone production over the next two years.
The move has significantly boosted India’s iPhone exports. Between April and July, India exported iPhones worth $7.5 billion — nearly half of the $17 billion exported during the entire previous fiscal year.
While the Trump administration has imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods, iPhones remain exempt. In a bid to maintain this exemption, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced plans to invest $600 billion in the United States over the next four years. Cook also said that most iPhones sold in the U.S. will soon be imported from India.
Beyond the iPhone 17 series, Apple is also preparing to manufacture the iPhone 17e —the successor to the iPhone 16e— in India, and is reportedly already in talks to begin production of the iPhone 18.
