Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in September, and new rumours suggest the upcoming Pro models could be significantly more expensive than their predecessors.
According to reports, the iPhone 18 Pro could start at $1,400, representing a $300 increase over the starting price of last year's iPhone 17 Pro.
9to5Mac, citing rumours, also reported that the base prices of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could increase by $200 to $300. According to the report, the iPhone 18 Pro may be priced between $1,299 and $1,399, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could start between $1,399 and $1,499. Currently, the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 in the US, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,199.
The expected price increase is believed to be driven by rising memory chip costs.
In India, reports have suggested varying price hikes for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup. While some claim the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could become ₹5,000 more expensive, others suggest the price increase could be as high as ₹20,000.
Earlier reports also suggested that Apple could face limited availability of the iPhone 18 Pro at launch due to a shortage of DRAM, the type of memory chip used in smartphones.
"Apple and its suppliers are scrambling to get enough memory chips for its upcoming release of new iPhone models," analyst Tim Culpan said.
Culpan added that Apple and its assembly partners remain confident they can meet initial demand. However, they are reportedly concerned that online delivery times could slip quickly and retail stores may run out of stock soon after launch.
Apart from the reported iPhone 18 Pro price hike, there have also been rumours that Apple could increase the prices of the iPhone 17 lineup ahead of the launch of its next-generation flagship models.
For now, the reported price hike remains speculative. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro lineup at its September launch event, when it will officially reveal the pricing and confirm whether the rumours are accurate.
